Ian Lancaster. Assistant Rotary Coordinator of Rotary International and Chair, District 7070 Vocational Services and Vocational Training Team Committees will speak to us on the topic: Rotarians and Vocational Service, the second Avenue of Service.

 

Bio

IAN E. LANCASTER, Grafton, Ontario, Canada

Ian is a proud member of the Rotary Club of Northumberland Sunrise.

He is a third-generation Rotarian going back more than 75 years. His grandfather E.W. was one of the driving forces behind the establishment of the Easter Seals Society in southwestern Ontario, the forerunner of Rotary’s Polio initiative. His father, Roy, was District Governor in 1976-77 in what was then District 640. Ian is currently an Assistant Rotary Coordinator for Zone 24 East and Chair of District 7070’s Vocational Services and Vocational Training Team Committees, and is a facilitator for the Shining Waters Division of the Rotary Leadership Institute. He is also a member of three of Rotary’s international fellowships encompassing his vocation as a nurse and a couple of his hobbies, flying and scuba diving. He is also a member of the Health Education and Wellness Rotary Action Group.

Ian travelled to India in 2011 to participate in a Polio National Immunization Days program, and in 2013 he led District 7070’s Vocational Training Team to District 2760, Nagoya, Japan. The focus was on the delivery of palliative care here and in Japan. While in Japan he attended Past Rotary International President Sakuji Tanaka’s Peace Forum in Hiroshima. And most recently Ian coordinated a feasibility study of the medical and psychosocial needs of pediatric oncology and dialysis patients in a public hospital and the residents of a nursing home in El Salvador.

Ian was recognized with The Rotary Foundation District Service Award in 2007-08 while a member of the Rotary Club of Bracebridge.

He is a Registered Nurse in private practice and a Clinical Nurse Specialist in hospice palliative care. He is the Managing Director and Clinical Consultant for Nurses Hospice Palliative Care Services, a private hospice palliative care delivery agency serving the areas bounded by Oshawa and Belleville and north to Peterborough and beyond.

Ian is happily married to Jane Wheeler and lives just north of the hamlet of Grafton. They are Rotary Foundation Paul Harris Fellows, Level Two Major Donors and Level Four members of the Bequest Society, committed supporters of the Rotary Peace Centers and Benefactors of The Rotary Foundation. Ian is also a member of District 7070’s Paul Harris Society.
