It is with profound sadness and shock that we share the news of the passing of our dear Rotary member Don Sirko. He passed suddenly following a heart operation, and is survived by his wife Irene, his daughter, Laryssa, and his son, Alex.
Don was one of the longest standing members of the Parkdale-High Park-Humber club, beginning his membership in 1993, and having been President of our club 3 different times. Don had perfect attendance throughout his membership of 30 years! Even when he was away he would find meetings to attend or do makeups upon his return by visiting other clubs.
Don was a perfect example of "service above self", supporting our club and all things Rotary in so many ways: he helped cooking and serving at the Fort York Food Bank, held dinners at his house in support of Night of a Thousand Dinners for landmine removal, hosted our entire club each summer in his lovely garden alongside his spirited family, and volunteered reliably at Delta Bingo, enabling us to support dozens of charitable organizations across our neighbourhoods.
Outside of our club, Don was a tireless supporter of the Ukrainian community, sitting on boards, volunteering to teach English to youth in Ukraine through GoCamps, and more recently supporting many during the war with Russia.
Don was a devoted family man who loved good food and red wine, golf and skiing, and loved to chuckle over a good joke. We will sorely miss his presence among us.
