Notes from March 26, 2015
Don indicated that OK Tire, a strong support of Rotary would like to start an initiative to rebuild a vehicle for someone in need who does not have the resources. In this role, twice a year, OK Tire would provide parts and labour necessary to bring a vehicle drive able. Highpark Rotary will work with various agencies including marketing this venture with OK Tire.
Scott mentioned that the facility that Golf Tournament (to be held August 13, 2015) has been held at has gone through a management change. Scott confirms that the new management has been very helpful and accommodating the Rotary Golf Tournament's requests.
Susanne Maxwell indicated that the Shakespeare evening was extremely successful and personally very rewarding and encouraged everyone who has never had the opportunity to participate in an production to do this! She also reminded us about the Spring fnd raiser on May 5th at Lulu Lounge. It is an evening of dance as well as silent auction and raffle draw. Highlights are 2 VIA tickets to Quebec City (always beautiful in the spring and summer) as well as a weekend at a beautiful cottage on Lake Erie.
Tickets are $20/person and do not include dinner - book in advance to reserve a table!
Speakers
HighPark Nature Center (Natalie and Nicole) gave an excellent presentation on the programs offered and changes at the Center.
Programs:
Traditionally the center has focused on Children aged 5 to 12. However the center has recognized the need to include additional age groups. Specifically for adults and seniors as well as the young adults. The seniors has 2 levels of classification. The more active group and low mobility groups have very distinct needs and objectives. However recent developments, including moving into the Forest School has given significant enhancements (including ramps etc) to allow the center to make a difference.
The Center needs volunteers to make this happen. Specifically, peer, event and program assistants are needed. Please contact Nicole. Her email is Nicole.Highpark@gmail.com
Furthermore the center is launching services for Mom and Tot, as well for those "waddlers" (just beginning to walk).
